Morden Wharf

Prior to founding New Construct Gavin was the Development and Trading Director at U+I and led this project – a partnership between Morden College and U+I.

The planning situation was particularly complicated as there was a chemical exclusion zone covering 90% of the site, a gasometer blast zone and a safeguarded wharf. In addition, c. 70% of the site was designated as Strategic Industrial Land making residential development more difficult.

Working in partnership with Morden College and the Royal Borough of Greenwich we were able to work through the planning and development constraints to prepare a planning application for a residential led mixed-use scheme.

The scale of new build development happening on the Greenwich Peninsula means that it is crucial to stitch the future development into the existing  community.  To do this affordable employment space  was provided to local tech companies, a restaurateur and a theatrical organisation. The aspiration is that these businesses will grow and establish themselves in the future development.
